Winter Storm Warning and Hazardous Weather Outlook - December 21-24

With the dangerous winter snow storm forecasted to impact much of Wisconsin over the next several days, emergency management is working to push out critical severe winter weather information and resources to the public and our municipalities to ensure we are prepared.

The National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting several states in the Midwest will be impacted by the winter storm, beginning December 21 and lasting through the weekend, which will be capable of producing strong winds, significant snowfall totals and blizzard-like conditions. The storm could result in hazardous travel conditions and power outages throughout the region and county, like we saw with many of our neighboring counties last week, leaving thousands of people without power for multiple days. It is important we treat the situation seriously and take steps now to plan for an emergency.

Our friends at St. Croix County have linked a ‘Severe Winter Weather Site’ on their Emergency Management webpage with information and safety tips related to having proper supplies in households if power is lost, safe heat sources, what to have in your motor vehicle for travel and what steps to take if you become stranded, warming shelter availability, map links to check power outages and report a power outage, connecting with 211 for resources, how to dress, how to protect your pets, etc. The webpage can be found here: Severe Winter Weather in St. Croix County | St. Croix County, WI (sccwi.gov).

Please be safe!
