River Falls Municipal Utilities has begun a four year process to convert all our cobrahead -style and some decorative streetlights to light emitting diode (LED). The new LEDs will consume from ½ to 1/3 of the energy of traditional street lights, resulting in long-term cost savings and a reduction in the overall energy consumed by the City. While there is a higher initial cost to purchasing these streetlights, the savings more than off-sets the cost over the life of the street lights. Not only will we expect significant energy savings, but also reduced maintenance costs and improved quality of light.
This change is another example of our City leading by example in energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.
